4. ARE YOU LOYAL?
Food for Thought:
4. ARE YOU LOYAL?
Loyalty
...Is a very sensitive
word!
You want to ask yourself, when does one stop being loyal?
Loyalty is
about commitment / alignment to the ideals of another because of the position
or responsibility being given.
The Wordweb defines Loyalty
as,"The act of binding yourself ( intellectually or emotionally) to a
course of action."
Considering the above, are you
Loyal to your family, boss, organization, church, your Department in church and
the society?
Loyalty is reciprocal.
As A Leader:
* You
should be loyal to subordinate you require loyalty from.
As A Subordinate:
* When
your actions do not align with the ideals of the responsibilities given you,
you become disloyal.
When your personal ideals come
into conflict with those of your given responsibilities, there will be need for
Discussion, Negotiations and (possibly) Compromises.
Discussion: Present
your views of your conflict to the relevant authorities.
Negotiation: Suggest
or request alternative ways to achieve the set goals.
Compromises: On your
part, how much grounds are you willing to give up?
If after these steps no
positive intentions are expressed, your loyalty faces the possibility of being
irrelevant and misplaced. It now becomes a matter of conscience. The Bible
states,
(1) Therefore to him that
knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. (James 4:17)
(2) As the cold of snow in the
time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he
refresheth the soul of his masters. (Proverbs 25:13)
Be loyal, but most importantly,
be your good self!
